How to set up Dungeon in one (approx.) easy lesson.
By Sysop*Dan Rhea
In the process of checking out the rather fantastic Dungeon game I discovered
one minor little flaw... setting it up is not documented! Seeing as how I'm a
concerned sysop I decided to whip up this little doc file for you. If you have
any questions about my instructions just drop me a line.
Here's what you'll need...
1. ARC.TTP (Revision 5.21!) - ARC521.ARC in Lib 3
2. ArcShell (Revision 1.97) - ASH197.ARC in Lib 3
3. Dungeon (Revision 5.1) - DUNG51.ARC in Lib 1
4. 2 floppy drives - at least one double sided. <or>
1 double sided floppy drive and a ram-disk. <or>
A hard drive.
5. A color monitor.
It may be possible to arrange Dungeon on a pair of single sided drives but I'm
unsure of the procedure.
Step 1. Preperation (the steps I took for a hard drive and a double sided
floppy drive).
Format the floppy drive. I suggest using Mega Twister if you can.
Step 2. Run ARCShell and de-arc to your hard drive or ram-disk.
Step 3. Move all the NON-ARC files to the target floppy drive. This will be a
DESKTOP.INF file, a very short READ.ME file and a loader program.
Step 4. De-arc the three ARC files that came out of DUNG51.ARC to the floppy
using the ARCShell's FOLDER option (see ARCShell doc for details). The
Files are CHARS, DATA, and DUNGEONS. When you are done you should have
this on your floppy...
<folder> DUNGEONS
<folder> CHARS
<folder> DATA
DESKTOP.INF
LOAD_ME.PRG
READ.ME
I also moved the original ARC file there just in case I lost something.
Step 5. Re-Boot your system using the floppy (Low Rez), and double click on
LOAD_ME.PRG. This get's you going in a very well done and very
enjoyable game.
Step 6. Sorry to say, there are no docs for this fine game but the user
interface is good enough that they are not really needed. Just keep
these in mind. Use the HELP key when in doubt. The cursor keys move
your character around.
I hope this file makes setting up the game easyer for you. If you happen to
figure out how to set up for single sided drives please download this file and
add the information on and send it back up to my attention. I'll merge the new
information into it (giving full credit), and update the file on-line. Good
luck adventures and my congratulations to the authors on a job well done.
